Lt. Alicia Starke, 28, 5'7", light
brown hair, gray eyes. She was born in the Naval Hospital at
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to Captain James and Amanda Starke. Her
paternal grandfather was Admiral Jiggs Starke, classmate and
lifelong friend of Admiral Harriman Nelson of the Nelson
Institute.
Alicia's father was a submariner,
and from an early age, she desired to follow in his footsteps.
After her father and grandfather had an estrangement, the family
moved from Pearl Harbor to San Diego, and her father retired
from the sea. Alicia grew up not knowing much of her
grandfather, but knowing of him from her mother and
grandmother.
She attended the San Diego public
schools and sought, and received, an appointment to Annapolis.
Her career choice was submarines, frowned on by her grandfather,
but hailed by the rest of her family. She was one of the first
women on subs after Congress opened the bastion up to females
with the advent of the Virginia class boats.
Alicia chose Dive Officer as her alternative path
and became accomplished with the field within 18 months of her
graduation from the Academy. As Dive Officer on the Nelson, she
assumes a multifaceted position including that of the Second
Officer on the boat. She is very much a part of the Senior
Staff of the boat, a plank owner, and proud of the part she has
played in the beginnings of a new legend |
